We are delighted to welcome back Padraig Jack to Clonmel, following his last appearance for us in 2024
RTE Folk Awards nominee Padraig Jack released his sophomore studio album in Spring 2024. A native of the Aran islands in the Irish speaking Gaeltacht, a place that has produced the writers Liam O’Flaithearta, Máirtín Ó’Direáin and Brean-dán Ó’hEithir, Padraig is proudly bilingual both as a conversationalist and a songwriter and writes and sings meaningful songs on guitar and piano in Irish Gaelic and English. With influences from James Taylor and The Eagles to Van Morrison, Sinead O’Connor and Shane McGowan, Padraig appreciates strong songwriting with a distinct point of view.
Having demonstrated his songwriting bona fides with his critically acclaimed debut ‘Making Sand’, which was named ‘ RTE Album of the Week ’ and garnered an RTE Folk Award nomination for ‘Best Original Song’ (Making Sand), Padraig is again teaming up with renowned producer John Reynolds (Sinead O’Connor, Damien Dempsey, Indigo Girls) and his occasional co-writing partner Barry Ronan as well as former Waterboy and Saw Doctors member Anthony Thistlethwaite for his second album.
Having toured Ireland and the UK as special guest to artists such as Miles Hunt of The Wonder Stuff , Damien Dempsey and Sharon Shannon, Padraig feels as comfortable on the contemporary music stage as he does when contextualising his own Irish Gaelic cultural background on multilingual tours of Wales and the Basque country.
Rugadh Padraig Jack O’Flaithearta isteach i clann ceolmhar in Árainn. Mac an amhránaí Barry Ronan agus nia an file Mary O’Malley, tá sé bródúil go mbíonn sé ag scríobh ceol i mBearla agus Gaeilge ar an giotár agus an piano.
Padraig Jack’s recent single ‘It Could Be Home’ was added to the RTE Recommends list for two weeks on its release in April and was the first single of his upcoming second album. His latest single ‘These Shores’ was released in May 2024. The album ‘These Shores’ is out on October 11th
2024 has seen Padraig play headline shows at Dublin TradFest in the Pepper Canister Church along with Cuas as well as shows at Kilkenny TradFest, Dublin’s Cobblestone, Galway’s Roisin Dubh. Padraig was very proud to play a series of shows on neighbouring islands Inis Oírr and Inis Meáin in summer 2024 and he made his debut at the Big Top for the Galway International Arts Festival as special guest to the Saw Doctors before performing two songs live on TG4 for the launch of Fleadh na hEireann in August.
